On Friday, July 24, AME‘s Christine and Jayme Bishop met more than 100 recent Broward high school graduates at the JA Sea the World South Florida Marine Pre-Apprenticeship Program Hiring Fair.
These are graduates ready for a next step. They walked out with new connections, a clearer picture of what the maritime industry does, and a route into it. Ten of them found jobs that day.
AME has already interviewed one potential apprentice, with two more interviews set for the following week.
JA’s Marine South Florida pre-apprenticeship program runs six months and sets participants up for five industry-recognized certifications. None of it happens without the 23 JA Sea the World partners, the MIASF apprenticeship partner companies, and the donors who keep it funded.
Thank you to every company that showed up for these students, to MIASF, and to Jerry Calvert at Junior Achievement of South Florida for making the day happen.
