Industrial News: Vibration Analysis Commissioning for Pump Station

AME recently supported a construction company with vibration analysis commissioning at a new pumping station in Florida. The purpose of this project was twofold: complete acceptance testing on five Vertical Axial Flow Impeller Pumps (P-1 through P-5) and to establish baseline vibration signatures for long-term condition monitoring.

In October 2025, AME’s vibration specialists performed a full vibration analysis survey under normal operating conditions. Each pump was tested individually, and again with all five operating simultaneously for a complete picture of system behavior. Using a Pruftechnik VibXpert II dual-channel analyzer, a database of measurement points, customized to the pump station’s layout and equipment specifications, was created and uploaded to the analyzer before testing.

AME’s data evaluation followed internationally recognized criteria including ISO 20816-3, ANSI S2.17, ANSI/HI 9.6.4-2016, and API 610. The analysis included comparing spectral data across all pumps, evaluating overall vibration levels and reference them against the acceptance criteria.

Results

The findings were positive across the board: all five pumps exhibited low vibration levels and were well within ISO, ANSI/HI, and API recommended tolerances, both when operated individually and simultaneously. These results confirm proper installation, alignment, and overall mechanical health at commissioning.

Looking Ahead

To protect the pump station’s long-term reliability, AME recommends integrating an annual vibration analysis survey into the facility’s maintenance schedule. Establishing and updating vibration trends is one of the most effective strategies for early detection of mechanical issues and maximizing asset life.
