Movers and Shakers Honored at Marine Industries Association of South Florida's Annual Meeting and Awards Lunch
The AME team had a fantastic time at the Marine Industries Association of South Florida's (MIASF) Annual Meeting and Awards Lunch held at the Lauderdale Yacht Club. AME proudly sponsored a table alongside Maritime Professional Training (MPT), bringing the AME + MPT team together for this special event. It was a great opportunity to reconnect with the industry leaders who make our maritime community exceptional.
A standout moment was learning about Captain Sandy Yawn's (from Bravo Series Below Deck) proposal for a new Florida license plate bearing the statement "Boating Capital of the World." This initiative aims to raise funds to promote maritime employment opportunities to students and adults. It's inspiring to see prominent members, and lifelong captains like Captain Sandy, believe in the cause of educating our community on the diverse career possibilities within Florida's maritime industry. Congratulations to Captain Sandy for being honored with the Marine Industry Champion Award—truly well-deserved! These license plates will soon be available for purchase, so be sure to get one and support our industry.
Another highlight was seeing Charles Ernst from Dockside Corporate Services, Inc., recognized with the Award of Excellence. Charlie's deep involvement in community initiatives, especially his dedication to the Plywood Regatta, makes him an inspiration that uplifts those around him. We are incredibly proud to see him receive this well-earned award.
A round of applause is in order for all the award recipients:
Award of Excellence: Major Pat Hart, Fort Lauderdale Police Department
Marine Industry Advocate Award: Kelly Skidmore, Florida House of Representatives
Marine Industry Advocate Award: Chip LaMarca, Florida House of Representatives
Golden Anchor Award: John Kelly, Bradford Marine
Frank Herhold Changing Lives 2024 Scholarship Recipient: Jordan Zulli
Congratulations to each winner for their outstanding contributions to the maritime industry.
