Marine News: Technical Supervision and Alignment Optimization for Cruise Ship Propulsion Systems
Advanced Mechanical Enterprises (AME) proudly served as technical representatives, providing expert supervision and direction during a critical maintenance operation on cruise ship. This project involved the removal and replacement of old CENTA CX290-70 couplings, alignment checks, and comprehensive vibration analysis across the vessel's main engines and alternators.
Our team worked meticulously to oversee the installation of new couplings on DG#1 through DG#4, ensuring every step adhered to manufacturer specifications. Alignment inspections revealed a consistent misalignment between engines and alternators, attributed to the settling of resilient mounts over time. To address these issues, AME directed alignment procedures to minimize wear on the newly installed couplings and optimize machinery performance.
Post-maintenance vibration analysis confirmed that all four generators are currently operating at safe vibration levels as per ISO 8528-9 standards, marking the success of the operation. However, our findings and recommendations highlighted the need for replacing the resilient engine mounts to restore proper alignment and extend component longevity.
