AME's Field Service Engineers recently conducted a 3-D geometric survey on a tugboat that recently experienced a grounding. The purpose of the survey was to identify any deformation in the individually staged Z-Drive components, as well as port and starboard mating flanges on the hull. The inspection was specifically requested by the manufacturer's technicians to ensure the vessel's machinery was still operational and safe to use. The survey involved measuring various components, such as port and starboard hull mating flanges, Z-Drive cones, gearbox mounting flanges, bell housings, stems, and starboard lower gearbox housing.
The AME team paid special attention to flatness, parallelism, and perpendicularity on planes of interest, as well as diameters and runouts on all bores/cylinders of interest. The measurements were analyzed using CAM2 software, which allowed for precise analysis of all parameters.
At AME, we understand the importance of ensuring all machinery is safe, operational, and properly maintained. Contact us for all your mechanical engineering services and repairs needs on yachts, pumping stations, locomotives, and more!
