Industrial News: Precision 3D Measurement Before Reassembly

AME was contracted during a planned overhaul to perform 3D geometric inspection on a Fairbanks Morse opposed-piston diesel engine and its mounting rails.

Using our 3D measurement laser tracker, our team measured engine mount rail flatness, along with upper and lower crankshaft bores for concentricity, inside diameter, and cylindricity/out-of-round.

The inspection gave the customer the information needed before reassembly, including flatness readings across the north and south mounting rails and bore measurements that identified areas outside the general trend.
