Highlights from MIASF & Greator Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Marine Advisory Council

Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF) and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce has a Marine Advisory Council committee that our CAO, Christine Battles was invited to speak at this past month. This marine council advises MIASF on issues affecting the maritime industry at local, state, and federal levels.

Christine shared the success of Sea the World, Junior Achievement of South Florida’s Maritime Storefront, and their Pre-Apprenticeship programs in Maritime, Construction, and Telecommunications. The attendees were impressed by the program’s growth since 2019 and the impact they’ve had on students across the community.

These meetings bring together leaders from Port Everglades, maritime business's such as McAllister Towing, Water Taxi, infrastructure and other community organizations. A special highlight for Christine was reconnecting with Launa Carbonell, now Executive Director of Seafarers House at Port Everglades, a full-circle moment in her career since her Miami Beach days.
